Be Prepared For The Worst-Case Scenarioy Or Lockdown : CM Naveen Patnaik

The second wave of Covid cases in Odisha is soaring up and the virus has affected many stated in India. Due to which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the situation in the State and directed officials to ramp up the capacity of High Dependency Unit beds or HDU beds or the beds with oxygen supply at hospitals.

While reviewing the current situation CM Naveen Patnaik stated to the senior official and Collectors that even if there are adequate numbers of beds at present in Odisha but everyone needs to remain prepared in advance.

He further informed that due to the preparedness and proactive measures the state can manage the situation to a large extent. But even if the state is ready to tackle the consequences of the second wave, for the worst-case scenario and to ensure that every patient is treated with dignity, best efforts should be made to save precious lives.

The second wave of Coronavirus has seriously affected many parts of the country where some states have declared a complete lockdown whereas Odisha recently declared that all the districts will have a weekend shutdown. The health system in some cities is under severe strain due to the rapid increase in Covid positive patients. The cases in Odisha also have been increasing in the last few days.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik highlighted some of the measure points which should be taken care of immediately. The number of beds needs to increase in Covid hospital and  Covid Care Centres across the State. Special focus should be on providing the maximum possible number of beds with oxygen support. The system has to work on war footing to ensure this within committed timelines.

The oxygen supply situation has to be closely monitored and ensure that all related accessories at the hospital level are available on priority. Even many states are facing medical shortage but even though Odisha have sufficient medicines stock, buffer stock to tackle higher demand should be made in coming weeks.

IEC campaign has to be further ramped up and people have to be educated on the dangerous spread of the second wave and the need for active adherence to Covid protocols. The community, Mission Shakti groups, PRI members should be actively involved in the process. The enforcement activities must be implemented strictly across the state.

With lockdowns in other states, Collectors should be prepared for the return of migrants. The protocols followed earlier should be reactivated by the Collectors immediately based on the existing database. The quarantine norms and testing should be ensured for all the returnees from other states. Senior officers assigned as observers and other responsibilities should their best effort like last year.
