State home department behind escape of gangster Hyder: BJP

The BJP has alleged that the state Home Department was involved in the escape of the notorious criminal Hyder. BJP state general secretary Lekhashree Samant Singhar raised the issue at a press conference today and pointed the finger at the direct involvement of the state government and many senior officials.

She asserted that according to the Odisha Jail Manual, in order for a criminal to go out of jail for treatment, he or she must be approved by the prison’s medical officer and the superintendent of the jail. While the inmate is being treated outside, a high-ranking official in the prison department is required to investigate daily and submit a report to the prison department on a daily basis. But in the case of the notorious criminal Haidar, the prison authorities have committed an unforgivable crime by deliberately negating all laws and regulations. The Home Department is responsible for Hyder’s escape and the state Department of Homeland Security is responsible. “So far, it is unfortunate that the DG Santosh Upadhyay, the Sambalpur jail superintendent and the jail medical officer have not been held accountable,” she said.

Hyder, a notorious criminal, was dropped off with the help of prison authorities and police. Telangana state police arrested him. State Home Department had come to the media through the police to cover up its guilt weakness. Hyder, who has twice been sentenced to life imprisonment in Sambalpur Jail, has repeatedly come to Cuttack to show false medical treatment. How did he have his mobile phone, cash, etc.? How did he eat biryani while he was in medical while undergoing treatment?

While he was being treated, Hyder did not have police security, but his girlfriend and other criminals stayed with him. Eventually, with the help of someone, he was able to escape. “There is a direct involvement of many officials behind the conspiracy and it needs to be exposed,” she said. The BJP has demanded that the Chief Minister immediately intervene in such a sensitive incident and take firm action against the culprits involved and publish a report on the situation in all the 91 jails in the state through a white paper.
