Pay Rs 5000 For Registration Of Vehicles Older Than 15 Years From April 2022

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highway has proposed a system of incentives and disincentives to push vehicle owners to discard old, polluting vehicles which have higher maintenance and fuel consumption costs as a part of the Centre’s Vehicle scrapping policy.

According to the reports, from April 2022, the fee for renewal of registration of vehicles more than 15 years old has been increased to Rs 5,000 and the registration of a new vehicle will cost only Rs 600. For bikes older than 15 years, the charge of registration renewal will be Rs 1,000, while getting a new bike registered will cost just Rs 300.

The report further added that the ministry later notified that the renewal of a certificate of fitness for a bus or truck which is older than 15 years will bear a cost of nearly eight times higher than what owners of the commercial vehicles currently pay.

To renew the fitness certificate of a bus or truck older than 15 years, the owner will have to shell out Rs 12,500 from April. For medium-sized goods vehicles or passenger motor vehicles, the revised fee will be Rs 10,000. If a new vehicle is purchased to replace a scrapped vehicle, the fee for the issue of a certificate of registration will be waived.
