In Conversation With Dr. Swarupa Nanda Mishra – A Reformist In The World Of Education

Dr Swarupa Nanda Mishra was born at Sidheswarpur, Rambag of Jajpur District in the year 1972.  His qualifications are M.Sc, B.Ed, PhD.

His Father Mr Bharat Charan Mishra, Retd. Headmaster and Mother Ms Sashikala Mishra, Housewife. He is working as the Principal, Shree Krishna International School (Senior Secondary CBSE Affiliated), Malipada, Bhubaneswar since March 2017.

Dr Mishra started his carrier in the year 1994 as an Assistant teacher and chooses this as his profession due to his passion for teaching.

He took a special interest in the educational area as he was greatly influenced by his father and that led to his passion for the teaching profession. He was having the intention to produce good human beings and to show the correct path to the Nation builders and make a strong future India.

As we all know responsibilities are one of the most important aspects of life, he challenged himself and accepted the post of Principal in Shree Krishna International School on 3rd March 2017. The main initial challenges for him were the student’s strength, communication facility to the school, bright and better future for the students, dedicated & disciplined faculty members, and smooth running of the organization with discipline. Dr Mishra has given his best to this institution since the day he joined. Every smooth butter melt and with it covid scenario came into the frame.

The covid-19 scenario is the worst scenario for the whole world. The education system is changed. In post-Covid, I must emphasize physical classes after getting consent from parents/Guardians. In my personal opinion, both the online and offline modes of teaching should continue for the betterment of the students. The education system will change in the adverse effect of covid-19, Says Dr Mishra.

He says, he enjoys his work as it is a TEMPLE for him. But with time things turned up, as everything was running smoothly before Covid-19. He mentioned all the stakeholders were working professionally. During Covid-19, I along with all the teachers were visiting individual students’ houses and we named the system “SCHOOL ON WHEELS PROGRAMME”. In this all the parents and students were happy. We took care of Health, academics; communication between Teacher-Parent-Students also became strong. I also personally visited the staff’s houses during pandemics. I conducted Motivational, inspirational meetings with parents/students/staff during the pandemic time.

Dr Mishra got a lot of achievements during his tenure in SKIS. The school got a 5-star rating School in the year 2020. Senior Secondary affiliation, NCC, Scout & Guide. They even hold centres for different public examinations on their school campus. NCC camps were conducted twice on the school campus also. He even thanked Mr Pabitra Routray, Chairman for his whole-hearted cooperation for all the achievements in every regard.

As we all know the educational sectors must emphasize on development of skills, attitudes, and value-based education to the students, as we are facing unusual challenges like social, economic, and environmental. The future is uncertain and we can’t predict it but we need to be open and ready for it. Schools can prepare the students for jobs that have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented, to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated. It must be a shares responsibility to seize opportunities and find solutions.

Dr Mishra says, in this hard time I would encourage all my students to share their feelings. I always remind them that, I am always with you. I must give them appropriate time and space to be on their own. I always listen to the student’s views and try to sort out the conflict calmly. I am always honest and transparent with my students. I am planning to have a wellness centre on-campus, designed by students and easily accessible to all the students, and also planning to have a regular open event for parents to attend to learn more about their kid’s mental health and how to support them. When it comes to the wellness of both faculty and students he says, I should emphasize students learning(methodology/pedagogy), communication skill, role-playing, faculty/student interaction, transparency, examination, assignments, academic calendar, etc.

Dr. Mishra also mentions, Online mode of teaching is good for the time but not for in a long term. In this method, the teachers are unable to access their students properly & genuinely. At last, I must say the offline mode of teaching is always the BEST. Teachers are not replaceable by any means.
