In the Ganjam district of Odisha, a woman was fighting for her life with severe burn wounds after she was allegedly set on fire by her husband for not paying his dowry demand.Mahuda village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Digapahandi police, reported the shocking incident. The victim at MKCG Medical College and Hospital was receiving treatment for 30% burn wounds.

According to reports, Sanjay Pradhan allegedly doused his wife Rita in hand sanitizer before lighting her on fire with the intent to kill her. The woman poured water on her while trying to put out the flame.The victim at MKCG Medical College and Hospital was receiving treatment for 30% burn wounds.
After the incident, she had relocated to a relative’s home. She was eventually admitted to MKCG by her family, though, after her condition got worse. Sanjay and Rita were married four years ago. During the wedding, her family reportedly gave Rs 1.70 lakh as dowry. Her in-laws, however, allegedly had been requesting more dowries.Rita’s family had previously reported the incident to the Berhampur Mahila police station. Despite their best efforts, the two families were unable to come to an agreement.
