Man leaves without paying bills worth Rs 24 Lakhs in Delhi’s Leela Palace

A resident of the United Arab Emirates is accused of defrauding the Leela Palace Hotel in New Delhi of over Rs 24 lakh and stealing silverware and a mother-of-pearl tray from the hotel room. The resident talked about his “job and life with the Royal family of Abu Dhabi.” The management of the Leela Hotel said in their complaint that the guy, identified as Mohammed Sharif, claimed to reside in the United Arab Emirates and to work for Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family. He explained to the workers that he knew the Sheikh personally and was in India on business.

He offered a business card, a UAE resident card, and other papers to support his claim. He frequently discussed his life in the UAE with the hotel personnel in an effort to promote his tale.From August 1 to November 20, Sharif remained at the hotel in the centre of Delhi before departing secretly.Despite the fact that Sharif’s bill at The Leela Palace was approximately Rs. 35 lakh, he only paid them Rs. 11.5 lakh before checking out.”One of our in-house guests defrauded The Leela Palace New Delhi out of money worth INR 23,46,413/- on November 20, 2022, by fleeing the property with valuables and without paying his due bills.”The FIR in the case states that the guest entered the hotel using a bogus business card and pretended to be a senior official of the government of the United Arab Emirates.
