The bye-election to the Jharsuguda assembly constituency will be held on May 10, as announced by the Election Commission of India today. Following the ECI’s announcement, Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal held a press meeting in the afternoon and informed that over 2.21 lakh people are eligible to exercise their franchise in the by-poll.
Voter tallies will be tallied on May 13. There are 1,10,320 males and 1,10,687 women who can vote in the by-election overall. 253 polling places will be used for voting, according to Dhal. Due to the heat at the height of summer, the CEO stated that appropriate measures for drinking water and first aid would be made to prevent any adverse incidents on election day.
In the Jharsuguda district, the model code of conduct was enacted when the by-election notification was made. Following the assassination of Minister Naba Kishore Das, a by-election was required. The selection of candidates for the by-election is underway between the opposition BJP and Congress and the incumbent BJD.
After being shot by a police officer at Gandhi Chhak in the Brajrajnagar neighbourhood of the Jharsuguda district, where he had gone to attend a function, Das passed away on January 29 in the evening. Dipali, the murdered minister’s daughter, is competing for a BJD ticket.
