Prior to World Health Day, the Adani Foundation vowed to provide healthcare to the most isolated areas for the benefit of those who belong to the weakest segments of society. The Adani Foundation started its efforts in 2015 after seeing the critical need for health and medical treatment in the Dhamra Port region of Odisha. A community health clinic was established, and in 2017 mobile healthcare units (MHCU) and a wellness center were launched. Along with the Wellness Center, there are now two mobile healthcare units functioning in the neighborhood.

“The Centre provides basic facilities which include diagnosing the patients and also has the provision for providing medicines. But slowly there has been an improvement in the services in the Wellness Center. Our intervention has added value to the government system,” said Satya Ranjan Mishra, Unit CSR Head, Dhamra.

A physiotherapy unit was established in July 2022, and another specialized service was then launched. Two times a month, specialized physicians from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar visit the Wellness Center to check patients as part of this effort. Every other service is free of charge, with the exception of physiotherapy, which has a small fee. The Adani Foundation also hosts free, specialized mega health camps three times a year with invited experts that focus on skin, ortho, pediatric, O&G, as well as diagnostic, blood pressure, and blood sugar checks.

“The MHCU and the Wellness Center have received positive response from the community. It is well accepted by the community. In fact, there is a request and need to expand the MHCU to other parts of the area. In 2022 August, we started another project which is a community health worker teleconsultation project. We are also negotiating with some specialised hospitals like cancer care and other specialised treatment centers. The area of Dhamra Port has around 390 villages. There is a need for more. Gradually we are also expanding our geographical area because the new airport is also coming up,” said Mishra.
