The East Indian state of Odisha will likely see stormy conditions for the rest of this week due to unseasonably unpredictable weather. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated areas of Odisha may see light rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds during the course of the next three days, from Thursday, April 6 to Saturday, April 8. On Friday, April 7, scattered areas of the state will also see hailstorms. Due to these forecasts, the following districts have received a yellow watch from the IMD’s regional met center in Bhubaneswar, which means “be aware of the local weather situation”:
Regarding Bhubaneswar, the IMD forecasts partly overcast sky with a chance of thunderstorms and moderate showers over the state capital. A cyclonic circulation above northeast Bangladesh and a trough that extends from this system to north Odisha would be the source of these unstable circumstances. Convective activity will also benefit from the Bay of Bengal’s incoming moisture, which will significantly raise daytime temperatures. As a result, the IMD has forecast a steady increase in maximum temperatures of 2 to 40 C over the following two days, with no more substantial changes anticipated.
Odisha, meantime, has had pre-monsoon rainfall that is slightly above average since the beginning of March. The state received 81.9 mm of precipitation between March 1 and April 5; this is a staggering 224% “large excess” over the 25.3 mm long-term average for this time frame.
