Senior Congress politician Bhakta Charan Das has been named President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, effective immediately. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) issued a press statement announcing this development. He was born on November 26, 1958, and has a long history in politics. In the 15th Lok Sabha, he served as the representative for Kalahandi. He has held positions such as Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Union Minister of State for Railways.
Following his appointment as the new president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, Bhakta Das conveyed his appreciation and dedication. “I am humbled that the party has trusted me with this responsibility,” he revealed. “I have always wanted to restore Congress to its former glory in Odisha.” I am grateful for Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge Ji’s trust, which is demonstrated by this appointment. In order to reinvigorate the state’s Congress, I shall require the collaboration of all party members.
