The government of India plans to release a set of guidelines for industry regulation and taxation either during the winter parliament session, which will take place between the end of November and early December, or by the end of FY23, according to Roland Landers, CEO of the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), an industry body for online gaming, at a press conference in Delhi on Thursday.
The industry body claims to have met with various ministries several times to explain the differences between taxing platform fees and taxing gross gaming revenue (GGR). According to AIGF members, gaming platforms charge between 8-10% platform fees for using their services. “Valuation is critical because raising gaming taxes from 18% to 28% would result in a 55% increase overall.”
