The government on Friday said it had granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) or authorization to procure military equipment worth Rs 183,778 crore since 2020-21.
According to India’s Defense Procurement Standards, AoN is the first step in the procurement of military equipment and hardware.
After the AoN is granted, each station and the Ministry of Defense conduct bidding and contract procedures.
“During the period 2020-21 to 2022-23 (until 30 June), 59 AoN have been granted. Capital acquisitions for defense equipment are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Defense Acquisition Procedure (DAP). DAP-2020 sets a deadline for the completion of acquisition activities,” said Ajay Bhatt.
“Furthermore, activity will be monitored regularly to ensure prompt finalization of proposals and contracts,” he added.
Ajay Bhatt further said that women have been recruited as officers in the Indian Navy since 1992, employed in various branches and specialties.
“Women can also be appointed as sailors in the Indian Navy pursuant to Ministry of Armed Forces Notification No. RP/3312/Women dated 23 June 2022,” he said.
