Union Minister Information and Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javedkar successfully propelled the channel Doordarshan Assam, a 24 hour dedicated channel for the state, through video conferencing from New Delhi yesterday.
Addressing the occasion, Mr.Javedkar said,” The channel is a gift to Assam, and its population that would cater to all sections of Assam and this would be vastly popular”.
The Doordarshan Channel of other states is available in DD Free Dish. The Minister appealed the programs on six national channels of Doordarshan and PM Modi’s vision of making North East India into India’s growth engine.
Shri Javedkar said that ” The region has supremely natural and has enough potential whereas the connectivity is a rider that is driving steadily.
The Doordarshan Channel in Assam is like a never ever before targetted a North East under the current government. Chief Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal joined the event too.
He called it a significant day for Assam that would be highly noticeable for Assam’s people, which would boost the growth of the state in all spheres of human activities. At the same time, this would assist in advance to locate the initiative and works of the government to grassroots.
Shri Sonowal acknowledged the initiatives of PM Modi, and he said that” he has been working sincerely since day one for the betterment of Assam and all other North-Eastern states of India.”
Governor of Assam Prof Jagdesh Mukhi attended the occasion over video conference. He said that”its a happy moment for the people of Assam as this would add wings to its kitty with its launch of DD channel and because of its implacable role the uniquely rich and culture of Assam received patronage from all over the country”.
Shri Amit Khare, the secretary Minister of information and broadcasting ministry stressed that Assam is a gateway to North East and North East is a gateway to ASEAN countries, which would add great linking via state to ASEAN.
The DD Northeast channel came into force as a 24×7 composite channel by Prasar Bharati to all eight states of the Northeastern region. It was commissioned on 1 November 1990 and was launched by 15 October 1994 and emerged as 24 hours channel from 27 December 2000.
DD Arunprabha channel was later introduced for Arunanchal Pradesh, which used to broadcast from Itanagar, which also came into force by 9 February 2019. Five channels from Northeastern states have beamed up, namely DD Meghalaya, DD Mizoram, DD Tripura, DD Manipur, DD Nagaland from Doordarshan Kendra.
From the month of April 2020, all these have been converted provisionally to 24×7 broadcasting channels during the current Covid-19 crisis. This ensured that no channel remains blank, and all DD channels carry content through local news during particular hours.
A continuous effort is being carried over to telecast attractive content on DD Assam, including music programs, travelogues, mega serials, feature films, reality shows, etc.The program’s capacity would consist of an ethnic touch, which would highlight their food cuisines, textiles, folk culture, and tribal life of the region.
