In his first competition in three years, reigning Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra returned to the men’s javelin final of the Federation Cup on Wednesday at Kalinga Stadium in this city, where he finished first and took home the gold medal. DP Manu, who earned the silver medal with the highest throw of 82.06 meters on the first try, lost ground to Neeraj, who claimed the lead with his best attempt of 82.27 meters on the fourth try. Uttam Patil, whose best throw was 78.39 meters, took home the bronze. With a best throw of 75.25 meters, Asian Games medalist Kishore Kumar Jena came in sixth.
Neeraj, who threw 82.00m on his first try, lost ground behind Manu after the latter’s throw of 82.06m. DP On his second try, Manu achieved a distance of 77.23.
