Athlos ’24: XIM Bhubaneswar Hosts Eastern India’s Premier Sporting Extravaganza

BHUBANESWAR: For over three decades, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) has been at the forefront of shaping exceptional business leaders, focusing on academic excellence and holistic personal development. In line with this vision, XIMB’s Sports Committee launched Athlos, the flagship sporting event, on June 18, 2024. This three-day extravaganza has quickly gained recognition as one of Eastern India’s premier sporting festivals, uniting athletes and enthusiasts in a memorable celebration of competition and camaraderie.

As one of the nation’s leading business schools, XIMB proudly hosted a wide range of sporting events that attracted enthusiastic participation from top B-schools across the country, along with esteemed alumni. The inaugural day kicked off with an electrifying mixed doubles badminton match between XIMB-A and XIMB-B, setting the stage for a series of exciting contests in cricket, futsal, pool, and chess.

Day two of Athlos featured an intense volleyball match between XIMB and IMI Bhubaneswar, culminating in a hard-fought victory for IMI Bhubaneswar. The day was filled with thrilling badminton mixed doubles and futsal matches, drawing in a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators. As the excitement continued, football, carrom, tennis, and throwball matches kept the audience thoroughly entertained, culminating in exhilarating table tennis and pool matches that capped off a day full of energy and applause.

The final day of Athlos ’24 was nothing short of thrilling, beginning with a men’s basketball final that pitted XIMB against Birla Global University (BGU). In a closely contested match, BGU emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline. The highly anticipated men’s football final followed, featuring XIMB and XIM University, New Campus. After a fiercely competitive match, XIMB claimed the championship title, igniting jubilant celebrations among their supporters.

The sporting action concluded with a grand closing ceremony at the XIMB Auditorium, led by Deputy Registrar Fr. V. Arokiyadass S.J. and the evening’s Chief Guest, Mr. Mohit Samal, Chief Operating Officer of Urbane Foods, the event partner for Athlos ’24. Together, they honored the winning and runner-up teams with well-deserved awards, bringing the exhilarating sports fest to a celebratory close.

Over the course of three days, Athlos saw a lively turnout from both the host institution and participating colleges, with competitors facing off in a total of 16 games across various categories. XIMB, along with its Old Campus, showcased exceptional performance throughout the event, finishing as overall champions with ten wins and six runner-up positions. XIM University, New Campus, also delivered a commendable performance, securing the runner-up spot in the overall standings with victories in three events and second-place finishes in seven.
