“Be custodians of justice, not agents of fear,” said CM Majhi to revenue officers

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the vital role revenue officers and tehsildars play in creating an open, responsible, and people-centered land management system. Speaking at the first state-level revenue officers’ conference and workshop at Lok Seva Bhawan, the chief minister urged officials to serve as intermediaries between the public and the government and to promote justice.

Majhi praised the evacuation of more than 8.1 lakh people to 6,210 cyclone shelters, drawing attention to the state’s prompt reaction to Cyclone Dana soon after the new administration took office. “The Zero Casualty objective is something we are dedicated to. Our proactive approach and excellent departmental collaboration are the reasons for our accomplishment,” he said. The Chief Minister gave officials instructions to make sure that services reach even the most disadvantaged people, emphasizing the value of grassroots governance. “You need to take the initiative to provide the villages with fair and timely services. Our first focus is the underprivileged and neglected,” he declared.

In addition, he strongly cautioned against illicit land deals, particularly those involving Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. Such transactions are impossible without the tehsildars’ knowledge. Willful neglect will not be accepted. He said that the administration has a rigorous zero-tolerance policy in this regard. Majhi urged revenue officials to stay vigilant and carefully heed the Meteorological Department’s instructions as the monsoon rains draw near. “You have to be ready for rain and cyclones from June to November, taking into account local conditions,” he continued.

The Chief Minister also stressed openness in all processes and demanded that land disputes, especially instances involving mutation, be resolved quickly. “There is unlawful encroachment on a sizable portion of important government land. To retake and safeguard such territory, officers must take decisive action,” he stated. He also exhorted police to support land acquisition for future industrial developments in a transparent and trustworthy manner. Speaking about the state’s enhanced ₹800 support for the purchase of paddy, Majhi emphasized the significance of precise land verification by a team including the departments of Agriculture, Revenue, Cooperation, and Irrigation in order to guarantee that real farmers profit.
