Bhagirathi Sagar Surakshya Samiti hands over a five point memorandum to Dhenkanal Municipality

Newly formed ‘Bhagirathi Sagar Surakshya Samiti’, which is pledged to protect Dhenkanal’s historic Bhagirathi Sagar handed over a five point memorandum to the executive officer of Dhenkanal Municipality shri Atanu Samant on Tuesday. This organization has been formed with the local residents and intellectuals living near the Bhagirathi Sagar and has vested the charge of President to Mr. Pankaj Nayak and Secretary to Mr. Ashok Swain.

A copy of the memorandum has been handed over to the District Magistrate and Collector. Worth mentioning that the reservoir was constructed by the order of the then king Maharaja Bhagirathi Mahendra Bahadur of Dhenkanal during the eighteenth century in the middle of the town. With the passing of time it was named after the king as ‘Bhagirathi Sagar’ and it went under the control of Dhenkanal Municipality. But now the water body is covered with lotus mud and other waste particles.

Even the lotus muds are creating obstacle for the Chandan yatra of lord Madan Mohan while the boat ferry across the water body. Keeping all this in view the organization handed over a five point memorandum which includes cleaning the waste materials and other deposits in the pond, cutting down the bushes sprawling around the periphery of the pond, creating a permanent concrete wall around the pond to stop people throwing waste particles in future, constructing a 10ft breadth pathway for morning and evening walk of people and setting a few benches for siting purpose and requested to inform the organization about any development or beautification work of the water body.
