Leader of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), Amit Kumar Patnaik, was suspended from the BJD after being apprehended in connection with a homicide. Amit was chosen to serve as the vice president of BCJD in the Gajapati district. He is a native of Karanasahi in Paralakhemundi. Amit was suspended by the BJD for anti-party activity.
Authorities in the Gajapati district claim that Amit was the mastermind behind the killing of 72-year-old Sarojini Patnaik at her home in Karanasahi, Paralakhamundi. Dauda Jena from Kashinagar and Pradeep Patnaik from Karanasahi have been named as the other two defendants. Reports state that Amit and his cronies killed Sarojini while making their getaway with the gold jewelry and cash they had stolen from her home. In order to confuse the police investigation, they also scattered chili powder around the crime scene.
All three of the case’s accused have been taken into custody by the police. The accused was also found in possession of twenty-four grams of gold, four cell phones, and the car that was used in the murder. Speaking about the arrest, Gajapati SP Swati S Kumar said, “We were assuming from the beginning that this murder is an activity of a hardened criminal. But we continued our probe. After a month-long investigation and detailed analysis, we have finally arrested three accused in the case.”
