T Raja Singh, a Telangana BJP MLA, was arrested today for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, following protests in Hyderabad last night demanding action against him. Other BJP leaders, including the Telangana BJP President, were arrested for protesting the act. According to P Sai Chaitanya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Hyderabad, a case was filed under sections of the law relating to insulting religious beliefs. Protests erupted in front of city Police Commissioner CV Anand’s office and other parts of Hyderabad on Monday night, according to various reports, after Raja Singh released a video allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.Police immediately filed a case under sections 295(a), 153(a), 505(1)(b)(c), 505(2), and 506 of the IPC.Muslims present at the scene were seen threatening South Zone DCP Krishna Chaitanya with dire consequences if action is not taken by police. Muslims protesting outside the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner’s office chanted “Sar Tan Se Juda.” The BJP MLA had earlier released a “comedy” video against comedian Munawar Faruqui, who held a show in Hyderabad last week amid protests.Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay also chastised Telangana’s K Chadrashkar Rao government for allowing Munawar to perform in Hyderabad. On August 20, around 50 people were taken into preventive custody outside the venue of a show by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Raja Singh claimed Munavar Faruqui hurt Hindu religious sentiments and made remarks against the comedian and his mother.Raja Singh said Munawar Faruqui hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and made remarks against the comedian and his mother.The incident comes months after the BJP suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma for making similar derogatory statements on a television debate.
