BMC Hospital Launches Dedicated Cancer Care Department In Bhubaneswar

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Hospital opened a dedicated Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Department on Tuesday, marking a major advancement in urban healthcare services. Every Tuesday, the new center hopes to provide cancer patients with prompt consultations, diagnostic tests, and basic therapy. As the chief guest, Mayor Sulochana Das attended the department’s official opening. Additional Commissioner Shubhendu Kumar Sahu, local Corporator Chandrasekhar Mallia, BMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Siddharth Shankar Ray, the Head of the Cancer Department, and a number of medical and support personnel were among the other dignitaries in attendance.

Five medical professionals from a range of specialties will be on hand every Tuesday from 9 AM to 1 PM to treat cancer patients as part of the new program. This is a significant improvement over the previous setup, in which only one doctor was available for consultations and cancer services were delivered in partnership with Panda Curie. Since that contract has ended, BMC has moved the services in-house, guaranteeing improved accessibility and interdisciplinary assistance.

The State Bank of India (SBI) contributed a sterilizing machine, which was also launched with the cancer treatment center. The device will be essential in improving safety and hygienic standards by sanitizing all surgical instruments utilized at the facility. The launch of the new department aligns with BMC’s broader goal of improving public health infrastructure and making specialized care more accessible to citizens.
