As per the latest development, people who are above 60 and are frontline workers have already started receiving booster doses. However, the big news coming from the health department is that there will be no mixed match of doses. Therefore, people who have taken COVIDSHIELD will take the same vaccine as a booster. The same implies to the people who have got their jabs of COVAXIN. As there has been no booster dose of Sputnik so far launched, people with Sputnik jab still have to wait for some time.

NITI Aayog’s Dr VK Paul remarked, “The precautionary vaccine dose that will be given to healthcare workers, frontline workers and individuals 60 years and above with comorbidities will be the same vaccine that has been given to them previously. Those who have received Covaxin will receive Covaxin, those who have received the primary doses of Covishield will receive Covishield. All arrangements are on track to start this process.”
The ‘precaution dose’ can be taken only after 9 months; 39 weeks from the date of the administration of the second dose. While the CoWIN system will send an SMS to the beneficiaries when their dose becomes due, the latter can also register themselves via online and offline mode.
