Today, the Election Commission of India (ECI) kicked off a two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) at the India International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), located in New Delhi. The session was attended by Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sushant Mishra, and Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan of Odisha. Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi also attended the session, which was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The CEOs’ offices in every State and Union Territory were evaluated by the Election Commission for their readiness for the next countrywide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This conference is a follow-up to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) preparation meeting that was conducted on September 10, 2025. The number of voters according to the previous SIR, the prior SIR’s qualifying date, and the overall voter list position in each State and Union Territory were all covered in depth at the discussion.

The Commission also assessed the CEOs’ progress in mapping the current voter base to the former voting base in their respective States/Union Territories, as instructed by the Commission. The Commission also examined the appointment and training status of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Booth Level Agents (BLAs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and District Election Officers (DEOs).
