Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena Reviews PMFBY Enrolment

The Chief Secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Kumar Jena, examined the status of farmers’ enrollment in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) today. According to an official press release, the Chief Secretary commended the field level staff for their quick work in enrolling more than 13 lakh farmers, and gave them till August 5 to complete the task.

All Collectors from the districts were virtually connected through the OSWAN platform, and the meeting was held in the Lok Seva Bhawan with the participation of the Principal Secretary Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Cooperation Department, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, the Directors of Agriculture & Food Production, Prem Chandra Choudhury, Horticulture, Rohit Kumar Lenka, and the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Uddhab Chandra Majhi. The delegation of representatives from the departments of cooperation and agriculture and FE also attended the conference.

The Principal Secretary, Dr. Padhee, voiced his disappointment over the banking network’s enrollment of such a small number of non-loanee farmers when he informed him about the decision of the Government of India to extend the cut-off date of enrolment to August 5th at the request of the Government of Odisha. The goal for the Cooperative Banks was to enroll 1 lakh non-loanee farmers by August 5th, and the other Commercial Banks were also requested to do the same. 4 lakh non-loanee farmers were to be enrolled by the Common Service Centers by the extended cut-off date.

After the meeting, Dr. Padhee stated that the goal of enrolling 25 lakh farmers in light of the State Government’s decision to pay the farmers’ share of premium will be easily accomplished within the deadline so that at least this many farmers can benefit from the State’s pro-farmer decision.
