The Pakistani Senate has witnessed strong protests. Member of of the ruling party have accused China of plotting and shielding the opposition by installing secret cameras in the Senate hall.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar alleged that spy (secret) cameras were installed at polling stations keeping an eye on the voting process. Raja Rabbani, another member of the Senate, said the law was openly violated and strongly condemned.

Voting for the election of chairman and deputy chairman in Pakistan on Friday reportedly took place. Meanwhile, there is a fierce rivalry between the joint opposition candidate for the post of Speaker of the Senate, Yusuf Raja Gilani, and the candidate of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Sadiq Sanjrani.

The current Senate Speaker and ruling party candidate Sanjrani is contesting for the second time. In addition, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate and former prime minister Gilani, who defeated the finance minister in last week’s Senate elections, is another problem for the government.
