CM Lays Foundation Stone India’s Largest Hockey Stadium In Rourkela


Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the country’s biggest hockey stadium named after the legendary freedom fighter ‘Birsa Munda’.

While addressing the people during the inauguration ceremony at the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) ground, CM Patnaik stated that Sundergarh has immense contribution to Indian hockey and also bears the true spirit of the national game. Even Sundargarh has also a special connection with hockey as players from the district have brought glory for India at the International level.

‘Bisra Munda’ India’s biggest hockey stadium will be the venue for the Hockey World Cup, 2023. CM further added that the spirit of hockey is in the soil and water of Sundergarh and also it is a matter of pleasure that Rourkela city in Sundergarh has been nominated for the 2023 Hockey world cup venue.

He also talked about the immense contribution of Rourkela to the development of the Sundergarh district and also stated that the city has played a crucial role in the development of Odisha.

CM also remembered his late father Biju Patnaik by stating that his father brought a huge revolution in Odisha’s industrial sector and Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) bear the memory to his contribution.

As per the report, Bisra Munda’ India’s biggest hockey stadium will have a modern field with an advanced facility and the stadium is also adjacent to the Rourkela airstrip where the commercial flight operations will be started soon. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 20,000 and will be constructed on a sprawling 15-acre plot inside the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) ground.
