As the second stage of the first installment money disbursement of its ambitious women’s empowerment project, the Odisha government deposited Rs 5,000 apiece in the bank accounts of around 35 lakh women. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and other dignitaries were present at the Chhau Ground in Baripada when Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi gave the recipients a sum of Rs 5,000.
In its Sankalp Patra (election manifesto), the BJP has pledged to launch the Subhadra Yojana specifically for women. On September 17, this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his birthday by launching the Subhadra project in Bhubaneswar. On that day, almost 2500000 women received Rs 5,000 in their bank accounts. Each recipient of the program will get Rs 10,000 year in two installments of Rs 5,000 each, one on International Women’s Day (March 8) and the other on Rakhi Purnima, for a period of five years. Women who applied by October 7 and were not granted access to the first phase of the distribution for a variety of reasons were given the money in the second round.
