The SCB Medical College and Hospital’s Department of Orthopaedics officially opened a new bone bank today. The bone bank was opened by chief guest and health minister Mukesh Mahaling. He thought it will lead to the development of novel therapies, particularly in orthopaedic surgery. Donor bones will be stored at the bank so that individuals in need can have them implanted. The honoree, local MLA Souvik Biswal, highlighted the advantages of the bank for underprivileged patients.
Prof. Dr Lucy Das, Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital, highlighted the bank’s significance for patients and medical students across East India and Odisha. A practical skills training workshop was also launched on this occasion. According to Prof. Dr Nirmal Mohapatra, Head of the Surgery Department, bones from 29 donors have already been preserved for use in upcoming surgeries
