According to a formal press release issued here today, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated Diego Mauricio of Odisha FC on winning the coveted ISL 2022–23 Golden Boot award, expressed gratitude for Diego’s outstanding performance and contribution to Odisha FC’s standing this season, and wished him luck. Together with the ISL Golden Boot, they also posed.
Diego and the president of Odisha FC, Raj Atwal, praised the chief minister for his support of the team and for establishing a comprehensive sports ecosystem for the growth and promotion of football. They were grateful for the facilities for sports, especially those that served as training grounds for the teams and were crucial to their success.
Notably, Odisha FC has been a fan favorite since 2019, attracting sizable audiences to the Kalinga Stadium for the ISL home matches. Diego Mauricio got the season off to a fast start by scoring twice against Jamshedpur FC in the opening game. He kept up this goal-scoring streak throughout the season, finishing with 12 goals in 21 games, becoming the top scorer in the ISL 2022–23 season and winning the coveted Golden Boot trophy.
