CM Naveen Patnaik Announces India’s Biggest Hockey Stadium In Rourkela

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that a world-class hockey stadium with a sitting capacity of 20,000 would be built up in Rourkela city. This stadium is set up to host the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023 and Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, CM Patnaik already promised to make Odisha a global sports destination, and the State Government will work hard to make it happen. The stadium with a capacity seating of 20000 spectators is already billed to be the biggest hockey stadium in India. CM announced this through a video message where he said that as a tribute to the contribution of Sundargarh to Indian hockey, the Government would build a new international level hockey stadium in Rourkela with a seating capacity of 20000. The new stadium is going to redefine the sports landscape in the region.


He further stated that the stadium would be developed as a benchmark for other hockey stadiums worldwide and the allied facilities. The stadium will be constructed in the Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus in Rourkela with 15 acres of land. Even the development of synthetic hockey turf in each of the 17 blocks has already been commenced at Sundargarh district.


Many great players have represented the country at the International level, and Sundargarh district is already a hockey talent powerhouse. Even the popularity of hockey among the people can be witnessed across the section where people support the hockey players immensely. To which the stadium will have some other modern amenities with a unique experience.
