Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated three sports facility- Aditya Birla-Gagan Narang Shooting High-Performance Centre at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
Along with these CM also inaugurated an Indoor stadium at Hinjilicut and a multipurpose indoor hall which have three badminton courts at Chatrapur in Ganjam. These programmes were held via video conferencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aditya Birla Group has also restored the shooting ranges of the 10m and 50m. In Chhatrapur a synthetic hockey lawn will also be arranged.
CM Patnaik stated that as a part of the 5T initiative, the sports department would undergo some significant transformation and development in the coming years. The quality coaching and infrastructure will help the athletes to perform better and bring honours to the entire nation. A new generation of world-class sportspersons from Odisha will also develop in the coming decades.
With the cost of approximately 11 crores, the indoor stadium at Hinjilicut has four badminton courts and spaces for table tennis, yoga, gym, Physiotherapy and board games. Even the Chatrapur Indoor stadium also consists of three badminton courts and table tennis room with other facilities. The High-Performance Centre has 22 lanes 10-meter range, which include 10 Electronic Lane and 12 Electrical Manual targets. The field can train more than 60 athletes every day. The area is equipped to handle Indian athletes from amateur to higher level. One-of-its-kind facilities in eastern India, it can draw a lot of athletes from nearby states to continue their training under high-performance coaches.
During the inauguration sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, senior Vice-President of National Rifle Federation of India Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Development Commissioner Suresh Chandra Mahapatra and Sports Secretary Vishal K Dev were also present.
