Concern Over Air Quality In Rourkela; OSPCB Officials Alert

Rourkela is one of the most industrialized cities in the country and also one of the most polluted.

The Odisha Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has tried to control pollution in the city with a focus on compliance with standards, awareness raising and collaboration, but has not seen much improvement.

As part of efforts to curb pollution, OSPCB regional offices held an awareness workshop for industry on Friday under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Experts from the Roukela Institute of Technology (RSP) and the Roukela Steel Works (RSP) emphasized the need for joint efforts to improve the situation.

Earlier in the day, air pollution awareness rallies were held in two locations around the city.

Air pollution in and around Steel City is primarily due to wildfires, as well as industrial and construction activities. The city has taken the brunt of massive construction activity in recent years, contributing to air pollution. To make matters worse, most of these projects are well behind schedule. Apart from that, digging roads through the city to build an underground integrated sewage system is also hurting the city.
