Mohd. Moquim, a legislator from Barabati-Cuttack, and Chiranjib Biswal, a former legislator, have been suspended from the Congress party with immediate effect by the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for engaging in anti-party actions. Sarat Pattanayak, President, Odisha PCC, reportedly alleged that Mohd. Moquim, MLA, and Chiranjib Biswal, Ex-MLA, are engaging in anti-party actions that are detrimental to the party in a press statement issued by the AICC and signed by Tariq Anwar, Member Secretary-DAC, AICC.

The DAC was informed of the situation. Both of them received notifications from the DAC requesting their justifications. The DAC thoroughly evaluated their responses and concluded that they were inadequate. As a result, the DAC has determined to suspend them both from the party immediately, according to the official press statement. This measure is taken before the 2024 elections. In light of this, the party’s goal of adding 90 MLA seats to the nine it now holds in 2019 may be impacted.

“We accept and welcome the decision of the party high command,” OPCC President Pattanayak stated.
