Two police officials were critically injured after a retired army jawan attacked them with a sword at Adimata square in the Banki town of Cuttack district today.
Sub-inspector Sambit Swain and Constable Uttam Kar were admitted to Banki sub-divisional hospital. SI Sambit Swain was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Last month, accused soldier Saroj Das had attacked a woman in the town. In a video clip, he was also seen creating terror by wielding sword on the road.
Police planned to capture him. Accordingly, SI Sambit Swain and Constable Sahu went to Adimata Square where Saroj was present. When the officials attempted to capture him, he allegedly hacked them with a sword and fled the spot.
Police formed a team to arrest him.
