CS, 5T Secy Visit Rourkela Review Progress Of Birsa Munda Intl Hockey Stadium

Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra and Secretary to the CM (5T) V K Pandian visited Rourkela on the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and examined the development of the being built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium. They traveled to Rourkela with R Vineel Krishna, Secretary of Sports and Youth Services, and Bhupendra Singh Punia, Managing Director of IDCO.

At the BPUT campus in Rourkela, the team looked over the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium that was still under construction. Both the primary stadium and the practice facility have been built. After the stadium’s high tower lights and both fields’ pitches were inspected, the license for the game was approved.

It is significant that Raurkela will host 20 games during the Men’s Hockey World Cup. Spain vs. India will play in the opening game on January 13. Three exhibition games will be played starting on December 24 before this. The infrastructure will be strengthened if any flaws are discovered during these practice games. Mohapatra also expressed the optimism that Rourkela Airport will soon have the required permits and be built.

The athletes will have access to four flights under the UDAN program. In less than a year, a stadium of this caliber was constructed. The residents of Sundergarh and Raurkela were commended by the chief secretary and the secretary to the chief minister (5T) for their unwavering support of the state government in this.

The Hockey World Cup will be held at Rourkela for the first time. Numerous hockey fans from the state and outside will go to Rourkela to witness the games. As a result, contemporary parking is being built all around the stadium to accommodate fans’ cars. In addition, plans are being developed to provide restrooms and drinking water within the stadium. For the benefit of the fans who will be outside the stadium, plans are being made to put LEDs in a number of locations.

Sundargarh Collector Parag Harshad Gavali, Rourkela ADM and Commissioner Subhankar Mohapatra, and other top representatives of the district administration and Rourkela Municipal Corporation were present during the team’s visit.

It’s important to note that Odisha will host the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup. The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the currently-under-construction Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will both host the World Cup. It will be the biggest hockey stadium in all of India. In this stadium, more than 20,000 fans may watch the game simultaneously from their seats.
