Cuttack drives into a high number of traffic fatalities in Odisha districts

Of all the districts in the state, Cuttack has the dubious distinction of having one of the highest rates of fatal traffic accidents. Cuttack was one of the high fatality districts in Odisha in 2021 with 379 road accidents reported there, resulting in 190 fatalities. The State Transport Authority examined the road accident data obtained from the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) to determine the pattern and cause of accidents in different areas.

Tangi had the most accidents and fatalities, according on analysis of police station-level accident statistics. The biggest number of traffic accidents in the Cuttack district—57 with 41 fatalities—were in the Tangi police limits. The Nirgundi-Tangi stretch of the NH that runs through the district was where most of it was recorded.
