Cyclone Alert In Bay Of Bengal Around May 23

Recently, cyclone ‘Tauktae’ made devastating conditions on the west coast of India affecting places like Kerala, Mumbai and Gujarat. But now as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is an indication of the formation of a cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal around May 23.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), they have warned that there might be a formation of the cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal at around May 23. Even the Secretary of Earth Sciences Ministry, Madhavan Nair Rajeevan, also confirmed the cyclonic formation in the Bay of Bengal in his Twitter post.

But, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Cyclone Centre head of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar,  stated that as of now there is no such confirmation about the formation of the system. But there is a possibility that a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the central Bay of Bengal.

He further added that the department had a telephonic conversation with the IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra about the possible formation of the cyclonic system and he said that a clear picture will emerge on Wednesday.

While regarding the effect of the cyclone in Odisha there is no such certainty as of now. The landfall can occur along the Odisha coast but nothing is certain as of now. After the formation of the system, the department can confirm the direction of the cyclonic storm. But there will certainly be depression over the Central Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, north coastal districts will receive heavy rainfall.
