Cyclone Gulab : Heavy Rainfall In South Odisha; Imd Issues Red Warning For 7 Districts

Cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ is likely to make landfall between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh by September 26 evening as per the India Meteorological Department.

According to the reports, the IMD informed that the cyclonic storm lay centred about 310km east-southeast of Gopalpur and 380 km east of Kalingapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Further, it stated that many parts of Odisha have started experiencing light to moderate rainfall activities.

The IMD further added that the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase gradually as the cyclonic storm will near the coast. The IMD has issued a ‘Red, Orange and Yellow’ warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall which is likely to lash several parts of Odisha for two days under the influence of the cyclonic storm.

Further, the ‘Red Warning’ has been issued for seven districts of Odisha-  Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri which will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
