Derek O’Brie Pushed To Ground; Puducherry CM On Hunger Strike

Trinamool MPs have been halted by UP Police from entering Hathras. The MPs had traveled about 200 kms from Delhi. The Trinamool MPs were to Hathras to express solidarity with the grieving family of the victim and convey their condolences. Trinamool leaders Derek O’Brien, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Pratima Mondal and Mamata Thakur are part of the delegation.

Former MP Mamata Thakur says, “We were going to meet her family but there were not allowing us. When we insisted, the women police personnel pulled at our blouses and lathi-charged at our MP Pratima Mondal. She fell down. The male police officers touched her. This is shameful.”

As the Trinamool Congress delegation started moving towards Hathras, they were stopped by UP Police and there was a heated argument between TMC leaders and the cops. In a video, the police can be seen shoving and pushing the Trinamool leaders as a result of which Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’ Brien fell on the ground.

Police halt Samajwadi Party from marching towards Mahatma Gandhi statue at Hazratganj from the party office. A protester says, “We were going to stage a protest the statue against Hathras incident and the law & order situation in the state.”

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal condemns the Hathras rape case, says, “The Hathras incident is very painful and the government’s conduct with the victim’s family is not right. We are living in democracy and people in power must not forget that they are not owners but ‘sevaks’ of this country.”

Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy, Congress ministers and MLAs along with one MP are sitting on a hunger strike. The strike is being staged near the Anna Statue In Puducherry. The fast started around 10 am and will continue till 5:30 pm today.
