The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended Hathras superintendent of police (SP), deputy superintendent of police (DSP), station inspector and two other officials citing gangrape and murder of the 19-year-old Dalit girl, hours after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vowed “total destruction” of those who even think of harming the self-respect of women.
SP Vikrant Vir, DSP Ram Shabd, inspector Dinesh Verma, SI Jagveer Singh, and head constable Mahesh Pal have been suspended. Vineet Jaiswal, has now been given the charge of SP Hathras, UP government’s suspension order mentioned.
Congress has issued a statement that Congress MPs under the leadership of “Rahul Gandhi will go to Hathras today to meet the grieving family of the 19-year old girl of Uttar Pradesh, who was brutally raped, murdered and the body cremated surreptitiously in the middle of night by Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government”.
The Congress MPs led by “Rahul Gandhi will meet the kin to hear their grievances and demand justice for the victim and her family who have been denied justice and traumatised by the BJP government in their desperate attempt to hide the truth of the heinous crime,” said the Congress statement.
Heavy police deployment has been made at the borders of Boolgarhi village in Hathras ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit today.
Hundreds of activists, students, women and political leaders, including CM Arvind Kejriwal, gathered at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi on Friday in a massive protest to demand justice for the Hathras victim who died after being gang raped in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. Raising slogans against the UP government, the Bhim Army chief, actor Swara Bhaskar, Kanhaiya Kumar, students, politicians and hundreds of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar.
