The Odisha government’s innovative universal healthcare initiative, Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), has shown success in terms of both volume and popularity. This information came from an internal review meeting recently conducted in the conference room of State Health Assurance Society (SHAS) and presided over by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Brundha D., where Additional Secretary and Joint CEO Subhananda Mohapatra presented the updates for discussion.
District coordinators and Swasthya Mitras, among other front-line employees, were instructed by CEO Dr. Brunda to be fully prepared to assist BSKY patients at the hospital level. They were urged to learn everything about the hospitals to which they had been assigned, including the range of clinical departments, wards, ICUs, digital diagnostic services offered by doctors, logistical facilities, etc. They were also instructed to aggressively help patients from isolated rural regions, especially the elderly, women, and dibyanga (those with disabilities), by providing them with reliable information and holding their hands during the registration, admission, treatment, and discharge processes.
The Nodal officials were instructed to communicate with the empanelled hospitals on a regular basis via WhatsApp group and VC and to address technological difficulties as they occur. According to the study, BSKY had acquired 681 super specialty hospitals from the private sector as of May 14 of this year. These hospitals came from several neighboring States as well as different regions of Odisha.
