Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, congratulated DRDO for the triumphantly accompanying flight test of ABHYAS from Odisha test range and appreciated the achievement of this milestone. He tweeted “The DRDO achieved a milestone today with the successful flight test of ABHYAS – High Speed Expandable Aerial Target from ITR Balasore. This can be used as a target for evaluation of various Missile systems. Congratulations to @DRDO_India & other stakeholders for this achievement”.
Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), DRDO has developed and designed ABHYAS, and the air vehicle originated using twin underslung booster. It is powered by a small gas turbine engine and has a MEMS-based Inertial Navigation System (INS) for navigation along with the Flight Control Computer (FCC) for administration and control. The vehicle is processed for fully self-governing flight. The check out of air vehicle is done using laptop-based Ground Control Station (GCS). ABHYAS is furnished with al progressions tracking pieces of equipment with the persistence of about 45 minutes. Types of equipment like sensors and GPS has been attached to it. It would also supplement the Lakshya-I and Lakshya-II which was already initiated in the armed forces.
