Jaisalmer, Rajasthan – Rajasthan’s CID Intelligence on Tuesday arrested a contractual manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Guest House near the Chandan Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer on charges of espionage.
The accused, identified as 32-year-old Mahendra Prasad, a resident of Palyun in Almora district, Uttarakhand, is alleged to have shared confidential details of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) via social media.
Inspector General of Police, CID (Security), Rajasthan, Dr. Vishnukant, said that ahead of the upcoming state-level Independence Day celebrations, CID Intelligence had been actively monitoring possible anti-national activities in the state. During this surveillance, it was discovered that Prasad was in contact with Pakistani intelligence handlers.
Following his detention, Prasad was jointly interrogated by multiple intelligence agencies at the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur. A technical examination of his mobile phone confirmed that he had been transmitting sensitive and strategic defence information across the border.
A case has been registered against him under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. He is scheduled to be presented in court on Wednesday, where the CID will seek his remand for further interrogation.
