A sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile’s first flight testing was successfully completed on Sunday by the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) off the coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal. According to a PIB announcement, the trial’s objective was to confront and neutralize a hostile ballistic missile threat in order to advance India into the exclusive group of countries with naval BMD capabilities.
A land-based BMD system with the capacity to neutralize ballistic missile threats posed by enemies was successfully demonstrated earlier by the DRDO. DRDO, the Indian Navy, and the industry all received praise from Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh for their roles in the successful display of ship-based ballistic missile defense capabilities. According to the Ministry of Defence on Sunday, the successful interceptor missile tests propelled India into the exclusive group of countries with a naval BMD capability.
The teams engaged in the missile’s design and development were praised by the Secretary of DDR&D and the Chairman of the DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat. He claimed that by creating very sophisticated, network-centric anti-ballistic missile systems, the country has attained self-sufficiency.
