Souvagya Mohapatra, Executive Director, Mayfair Group of Hotels
One of the most trusted lieutenants of Dilip Ray(Driving Mayfair’s Wheel of Fortune), Souvagya Mohapatra has spearheaded the organic and inorganic expansion of the iconic Mayfair Group from a single, low-rise property at Rourkela to 12 plush hotels across the country.
Insiders say Mohapatra is the only executive whom Ray, the CMD of the Mayfair conglomerate trusts so implicitly.
“Our idea to create luxurious world-class properties with an ethnic touch, colonial-style and imbibing local architecture and culture in design, coupled with personalized services has made MAYFAIR unique. Our perfect timing of opening the right property in the suitable destination and targeting the appropriate market segment has given us strategic advantages”, Mohapatra says.
Not one to breathe the air of complacency, Mohapatra has been constantly upgrading and innovating. “We keep all our systems updated with the latest technological developments and adopt innovative practices. We use the latest software to upgrade our reservation system, procurement system, supply chain management system and reputation management system”, he asserted.
An active member of OSTPC – Odisha State Tourism Promotion Council for the term 2018-2021, Mohapatra is also an Executive Committee member of FHRAI – The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India, having served two terms — 2014-15, and 2016 till now.
Mayfair’s forte has been its distinctiveness and the peerless service to the guests. Thanks to the diligent efforts invested by Mohapatra, the properties owned and operated by Mayfair Group have always upstaged rivals and trumped competition.
“Ninety percent of Mayfair properties are number one in the city or town in which they operate. We have always strived to maintain a property’s distinctiveness and deliver the best standard of services and experiences. We ensure that our rooms and bathrooms are huge which symbolises luxury, even though we compromise on the number of keys.”
As Mayfair is in the process of accelerated expansion with more rooms and properties in the pipeline, Mohapatra hardly has ample time for his personal life. He has to spend more hours immersed in office work.
A doyen in the hotel industry, Mohapatra was listed in the Power List of Hoteliers in 2017. Internationally acclaimed hospitality industry magazine Hotelier India named Souvagya for his strong influence on the sector across the country.
Known to be a go-getter in the hospitality circles, Mohapatra enjoys cordial liaisons with the who’s who of Odisha bureaucracy. He operates in close coordination with the CMD of the Group.
