The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached assets worth ₹3.61 crore of Kailash Kumar Singla, a former Executive Engineer with the Punjab State Water Resources Corporation, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. This action follows a graft case filed in January 2017 by the Bathinda Vigilance Bureau, after Singla and his colleague, Superintendent Engineer Suresh Goel, were caught in a bribery incident.
Singla, who was previously the Director of Hydel Design, Punjab, faced a disproportionate assets case in March 2017 when ₹1.25 crore was seized from his residence, including ₹10 lakh in ₹2,000 denomination notes. Singla was suspended and spent over three months in jail before his release in April 2017.
Investigations by the ED revealed that between 2012 and 2017, Singla and his family had an income of ₹1.57 crore but incurred expenses totaling ₹4.21 crore, resulting in the identification of disproportionate assets worth ₹2.64 crore.
