It is not an uncommon fact that a lot of cities are facing powercuts in the summer season. The April month saw a major shutdown. The total capacity that was shutdown was around 66.534.31 MW. However the lack of fuel made it trip few more units.
According to a report by Central Electricity 72,074.14 (MW) comprising of thermal,nuclear and hydro power were shut down in April 20. This is surprisingly around 25% of the total monitored capacity i.e. 289,581.24 MW. The worst suffering states are Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and UP according to AIPEF. There are several states facing coal shortage issue as well which is aggravating the crisis. States facing these coal shortage issues are Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana , Maharashtra etc.
