Engineering Success and Cultivating Change: Er. Rajkumar Singh’s Mission for Growth and Unity

FEATURE: In a world often defined by relentless pursuits of personal gain, there are individuals who shine as beacons of selfless dedication and purposeful living. En. Rajkumar Singh is one such changemaker whose life story epitomizes the philosophy of serving society with humility and kindness. Drawing strength from the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, Rajkumar has embraced the teaching, “Set thy heart upon thy work, but never on its reward.” This guiding principle has shaped his inspiring journey from a humble upbringing in Bihar to becoming a celebrated leader in Odisha.

Rajkumar Singh’s multifaceted contributions span industries and causes, making him a true visionary. With a professional career rooted in civil engineering, he spent over two decades transforming the construction landscape in Odisha. His work wasn’t limited to infrastructure—it extended to building communities and empowering tribal populations in some of the state’s remotest areas. As an innovator, Rajkumar later turned his attention to agriculture and food production, driven by a mission to provide society with toxin-free, high-quality food. Additionally, as the president of BISWAS, a prominent cultural organization for Biharis in Odisha, he has worked tirelessly to preserve and promote the rich heritage of undivided Bihar, Bengal, and Odisha.

Born into a middle-class family in Maniyappa village, Begusarai district, Bihar, Rajkumar Singh’s journey began amidst modest circumstances. His father, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, served as the Head of the Mathematics Department at R.D. College, Sheikhpura, while his mother, a double M.A. graduate, chose family over her teaching career to raise their four children.

As a child, young Rajkumar was full of energy and mischief, with a keen interest in outdoor activities and extracurricular pursuits. Though his heart leaned toward the arts, he heeded his father’s advice to pursue engineering. In 1987, he moved to Odisha, where he completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a prestigious college under Utkal University.

From the very start, Odisha welcomed Rajkumar with open arms. Over the years, this state transformed from an unfamiliar land into his home and workplace. His friends here became family, and he formed an unbreakable bond with the land, culture, and people of Odisha.

With the unwavering support of his wife and three children, Rajkumar has built a beautiful life in Odisha. The state’s warmth and inclusiveness inspired him to immerse himself in its ethos, a connection he values deeply.

Rajkumar Singh’s career in construction was not just about building structures but also about building connections. He spent two decades working in some of the remotest areas of Odisha, often alongside tribal communities. These experiences proved transformative, as he discovered the richness of human connection and the beauty of communal harmony.

“True luxury is simply the company of like-minded souls who can see through you,” Rajkumar reflects. This philosophy has fuelled his passion for creating a society driven by innovation, growth, and harmony. It is no wonder that his name now resonates within a community that embraces him as one of their own.

After spending two decades in the construction business, Rajkumar recognized a new calling: agriculture and food production. Concerned by the declining quality in the food industry and the lack of nutritional value in many products, he set his sights on developing toxin-free and adulteration-free food items. For him, good-quality food is the foundation of a good life. This new venture promises to be another avenue through which he aims to serve society.

Rajkumar Singh’s leadership extends beyond his professional life. As the president of BISWAS, a leading organization for Biharis living in Odisha, he has been at the forefront of promoting cultural heritage and social service. For over 25 years, BISWAS has been a platform for preserving the traditions of undivided Bihar, Bengal, and Odisha, fostering unity among these communities.

Under Rajkumar’s leadership, BISWAS aspires to integrate and celebrate this rich cultural tapestry, ensuring that future generations take pride in their roots.

The idea of “Purvodaya”—the rise of Eastern India—resonates strongly with Rajkumar Singh. He believes that Odisha, with its abundant natural resources and immense potential, is poised to become the nucleus of this vision. Driven by a deep sense of purpose, he sees it as a privilege to contribute to initiatives that promote the state’s growth and prosperity.

For Rajkumar Singh, the journey is not just about personal achievements but about the impact one leaves behind. Whether it is fostering innovation, working towards a toxin-free food industry, or preserving cultural heritage, his life’s mission is grounded in selfless dedication and a desire to uplift others.

In the words of the Bhagavad Gita, he remains steadfast in his commitment to work without being attached to its rewards, leaving a legacy that reflects the power of kindness and vision.
