Right now the AIIMS in Bhubaneswar is fully operational and has managed to emerge as one of the lending AIIMS in India. Whether in terms of medical education or quality health care, AIIMS in Bhubaneswar has excellently worked in all the aspects. Asit Thripathy, Chief Secretary in a letter to Rajesh Bhusan, the Union Health Secretary stated the current successful scenario of the Bhubaneswar AIIMS.
He further stated that in Bihar, a second had been placed and to that, a similar proposal is under consideration in another state. Odisha requires health care, and it is proposed that a second AIIMS may be considered in the district of Sundargarh. He also informed that proper infrastructure for the college and Hospital is readily accessible in Sundargarh.
An MoU has been signed within the Odisha Government and NTPC for the establishment of medical colleges and hospitals as a CSR initiative. The Construction of the project has been concluded, and the supply procurement method is operating. The hospital is planned for 500 beds, and the college will have 100 strength in MBBS. To which there is the availability of proper infrastructure which can be used for the setting up of second AIIMS. The tribal population, which is relatively larger, will get the medical help in that area and will help in providing quality tertiary care in the backward region of Western Odisha. The location where the second AIIMS will be established is easily accessible via road, railway, and air (Jharsuguda airport).
