The government has set up a team of experts to determine the minimum wage for workers across the country. The Ministry of Labor and Employment has issued a statement in the case, while a committee headed by Prof. Ajit Mishra has been constituted. The committee will recommend setting the minimum wage and providing technical information.
At the national level, the minimum wage is in line with the wages that apply to all classes of workers across the country. The term of the committee is three years from the date of notification. To set wage rates, the committee will review international best practices and develop a scientific standard for wage determination.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Ajit Mishra, Director, Institute of Economic Growth, while Prof. Tarika Chakraborty, Professor, IIM Kolkata, Senior Member of the National Council of Applied Economic Research, etc., appointed as members. Similarly, DPSS, a senior labor and employment adviser to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, is a member secretary of the Negi Committee.
