Exploring New Avenues of Economic Cooperation -Vietnamese Delegation Engages with Government of Odisha

A 22-member delegation from Vinh Long Province, Vietnam, visited Odisha to explore the potential of business and investment opportunities, particularly in the textiles, agribusiness, engineering, chemicals, and plastics sectors, among others. In preparation for this visit, an official meeting between delegates from Vietnam and officials from the Government of Odisha was held at the Hotel ITC in Bhubaneswar.

Apart from promoting trade and investment, the delegation’s primary focus was on forging collaborative ventures and identifying strategic investment opportunities, as well as developing cooperation with them in areas such as higher education, health care, training, information technology, and tourism. Vinh Long Province, known for its mid and high technology hubs, sought to capitalize on Odisha’s diverse economic landscape for mutual growth. The delegation expressed strong interest in several sectors in order to foster bilateral trade and attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

The Vinh Long Province Delegation was greeted warmly by Shri Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Industry Department, Government of Odisha. His opening remarks set the tone for an engaging and collaborative discussion. He gave an in-depth presentation on Odisha’s industrial ecosystem. He also emphasized the state’s strengths, potential areas for collaboration, and the favorable climate for investment and business development.

A special address was given by Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hanh, Member of the Central Standing Committee and Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Department in Vietnam. Her insights provided a valuable perspective on the Vinh Long Province Delegation’s goals and aspirations. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Jena, Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha, attended the event. Earlier in the day, he met with the delegation and discussed Odisha’s rapid progress in disaster management, agriculture, and transformative health practices.

Mr. Pratap Kesari Deb, Hon’ble Minister of Industries, MSME, and Energy for the Government of Odisha, delivered a special speech focusing on the vast opportunities available in the industrial sector. Key points were presented, showcasing the potential for investment and growth in Odisha with emphasis on the visionary steps of Hon’ble CM of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik for attracting the investors to Odisha. In the end, Mr. Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Managing Director IDCO& IPICOL Government of Odisha, thanked the Vinh Long Province Delegation for their visit along with other dignitaries present and emphasized the commitment of Odisha to fostering meaningful collaborations and partnerships.

The visit concluded on a high note, with both delegations expressing optimism about the prospects of future collaborations. The success of this visit signifies a significant step towards deeper collaboration between Vietnam and Odisha. It is a testament to the commitment of both regions in fostering meaningful partnerships that extend beyond borders, contributing to the growth and prosperity of their people.
